A common design challenge is placing visual elements behind an existing layer without disrupting autolayout in your tool. This page gives a concise explanation for achieving this.

To insert something behind a layer, place the new element outside of the autolayout group, then position it using layer order and absolute positioning. This lets you add decorative backgrounds, highlights, or overlays behind stacks in Figma, Sketch, or similar apps—without altering the autolayout itself.

This trick is particularly helpful for backgrounds or overlays that shouldn’t interact with the spacing or alignment within the autolayout itself, ensuring your layout remains stable and organized.
